Who We Are

PLANT FRUIT was the brain child of Kim Mowder, after she travelled to Uganda and met the Batwa Tribe, original indigenous people of East Africa. She heard the sad story of their eviction from their forest home, the statistics that 40% of their children don't reach age 5, that they are outcasts in their own land due to deep prejudice. Kim decided their plight need not be permanent. She began raising funds to create a school for Batwa Women. That school began classes August 16, 2022 with 8 Batwa students and 8 women from the nearby town of Cyanika. Those students graduated with a new skill and confidence on April 15, 2024. Since the first class began, PLANT FRUIT UGANDA has trained young men in brick-making, carpentry, and carving. Young women are learning not only sewing skills, but  jewelry-making and basketry as well, at PLANT FRUIT CENTER FOR PRACTICAL ARTS.  The tribe has used land leased by PLANT FRUIT to grow crops, and learn organic farming. They have been given 2 acres of land, a gift from a PLANT FRUIT donor, where houses will be built by their own hands beginning Summer 2024. We are now raising funds to build an entire community to keep the tribe together on that land.  This indigenous tribe had absolutely no hope without PLANT FRUIT donors, and the amazing volunteers who power the programs.  We hope you will get in touch, donate or volunteer to help us succeed in preventing the extinction of these precious people.
